COURSEWORK TASKS

AS Media Preliminary Task

Preliminary Exercise Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door. Crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Main Task:

The titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes All video and audio material must be original, produced the candidate, with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source. Both preliminary and main tasks may be done individually or as a group. Maximum four members for a group.

180 DEGREE RULE

It's a basic rule that means that two characters should always have the same left and right relationship to each other. It is used to enforce continuity in the film.


SHOT-REVERSE SHOT

 Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character. The effect of this editing is that the
the viewers unconsciously assumes that they (the characters who are shown facing in the opposite directions) are looking at each other.

MATCH ON ACTION

Match on action is a very simple but essential tenchique, where the perspective of the camera changes during a scene and the scene continues to flow. The effect of using match on action is to enable the director to show key details of a particular sequence by using different shots in continuous order.
